The holiday season is a time for joy, but for families with children in intensive care, it can be especially challenging. That’s why DTE crews and volunteers came together for the annual DTE Light Up the Night tradition—bringing light, hope and holiday magic to Michigan hospitals.

On Dec. 1 and Dec. 10, decorated service trucks and beloved characters visited C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital, Children’s Hospital of Michigan and Sinai Grace Hospital. At Ronald McDonald House Ann Arbor, volunteers joined the Victors Wave, greeting kids from the parking lot to spread cheer even from a distance.

“Light Up the Night is more than a tradition—it’s a celebration of community,” said Rodney Cole, president, DTE Foundation. “This event brings joy and hope to families during the holiday season, creating moments that remind us all of the power of coming together. It’s about lifting spirits and strengthening the bonds that make our neighborhoods thrive.”

“Our Winter Wonderland event provided an opportunity to our patients and families to forget they were in a hospital for a period of time,” said Maureen Sys, volunteer services and child life manager, Children’s Hospital of Michigan. “Children who are hospitalized during the holiday season often miss out on fun holiday events and this event made it possible to experience some holiday normalcy- the DTE light up trucks, crafts, cookie decorating, Elsa/Batman and an inflatable walking path. Many patients are unexpectedly admitted to the hospital & events like this always have an element of surprise – letting kids be kids instead of a patient.”

These visits reflect DTE’s commitment to the communities we serve—especially during times that matter most. Thank you to our employees and partners who made this celebration possible.
