DTE Energy is laser focused on building the grid of the future — one that is more resilient, efficient and ready for the challenges ahead. That means accelerating our transition to a smart grid, upgrading existing infrastructure, rebuilding significant portions of the grid and trimming trees.

In Oakland County’s Independence Township, surrounding the village of Clarkston, that work is well underway.

DTE crews were recently working in a marshy area along Clintonville Road, where older, weathered utility poles needed to be replaced. Decades of exposure to the elements had compromised their ability to provide reliable electric service.

The overhead crew replaced the aging poles with a more modern and reliable replacements. They installed the sturdier, weather-resistant poles near the original poles, ensuring minimal disruption to the nearby customers. New lightweight, more durable fiberglass cross arms and pole top equipment were also added, ensuring better longevity and reliability in the years to come.

This work is just one example of the many improvements DTE investment is making across the communities we serve.
