At DTE Energy, our commitment to building the grid of the future will ensure Pontiac — and all of Oakland County — stays safe and empowered. As the population expands in the county, so does the demand for more reliable electricity.

DTE Energy overhead crews were recently hard at work in Hawthorne Park, just off North Telegraph Road, an area that plays a vital recreational role in the community. After many years of service, weathered utility poles and other electrical equipment in and around the park needed to be replaced.

Crews stepped in to remove the old poles on site and install new robust, weather-resistant poles. New pole top equipment, with essential components including modern fiberglass cross arms, were also attached to the poles. Modern transformers replaced the old ones, enhancing efficiency and reliability. These new transformers will also be able to support higher voltage levels as electric needs and demand increase.

DTE crews also upgraded the streetlights in the area with newer models to ensure Hawthorne Park Drive remains well-lit for traffic and as a safeguard for park-goers. In preparation for near future growth, the crew also dug additional locations for more power pole placements.

DTE is investing more than $100 million in and around Pontiac between 2012 and 2030.
