DTE Energy is dedicated to constructing a smarter, stronger and more resilient grid to enhance reliability. Our commitment to customers is to reduce power outages by 30% and to cut outage durations in halfby 2029.

Our crews have been advancing work on certain circuits in Livonia since last fall. But there are reliability improvements happening all over the city.

In the southern portion of Livonia, along Joy Road near Harrison Street, 210 new power poles are now being installed. These new, cement poles are more durable than the poles that currently exist in that area. In addition to the new poles, each current pole is being inspected to see what additional upgrades are also needed. New cross-arms, insulators, or a new transformer are all examples of upgrades that could be deemed necessary by our front-line crews. This work along Joy Road will help strengthen the grid and reduce the risk of outages, especially during extreme weather conditions.

DTE is building the grid of the future. That plan includes transitioning to a smart grid, upgrading existing infrastructure, rebuilding significant portions of the grid and trimming trees. These are at the core of our plan as we work to increase reliability in Northville and for the many communities we serve.
