Thank you for being a valued DTE Gas customer. We are honored to serve your business and are committed to providing you with safe, reliable and affordable natural gas service.

 Natural gas safety

Together, DTE and your business can work to keep natural gas safe for your customers, employees and community. Please follow these tips for using natural gas safely at your business.

  • Gas leak awareness – The most obvious sign of a natural gas leak is the rotten egg smell of the odorant we add to the gas. If you smell natural gas or suspect a gas leak, call 911 and then the DTE Gas leak hotline at 800.947.5000.
  • MISS Dig 811 – If you’re planning any digging projects, you must call MISS Dig at 811 at least three business days before you break ground. This will show you the location of buried utility lines so you can avoid hitting them while digging, keeping you safe.
  • Meter safety – To ensure safety and accuracy, we routinely inspect our meters. Be sure to schedule a safety inspection appointment when we notify you it’s time to do so. In the meantime, keep your meter clear of debris, leaves, snow, ice, etc.
  • Know what you’re responsible for – We are responsible for safely bringing natural gas to the meter at your business, the safe functionality of the meter itself, and the pipe that runs from the meter into your business. You are responsible for the maintenance and repairs to natural gas appliances and pipes inside your property as well as exterior features fed with natural gas such as barbecues or heaters.
  • Carbon Monoxide awareness – Carbon monoxide is odorless, colorless and tasteless. Your best defense is to install carbon monoxide alarms throughout your business in hallways and areas where people gather.

Energy usage

It’s also important to keep in mind that every business’s space is different. From the size of your building(s) to the habits of the people who occupy it, every organization’s energy needs are different. These needs can change from month to month, too. Understanding how to manage your energy usage will help you use energy more efficiently; learn more in this post.
