DTE Energy is dedicated to constructing a smarter, stronger and more resilient grid to enhance reliability. Our commitment to customers is to reduce power outages by 30% and to cut outage durations in half by 2029.

As we continue efforts to strengthen the grid, crews have been busy in Waterford Township with reliability improvements. Our team must first identify equipment needing an upgrade, whether due to age, damage or any other factors that may deem equipment obsolete. Our crews will then make the appropriate upgrades.

Recently, we focused on the corner of Preston Avenue and Edgefield Drive, where the team installed a new pole along with vital components like new cross arms and connectors on top of that pole. Similar upgrades are being made throughout our service areas, working together to strengthen the grid and improve reliability, especially during extreme weather.

These infrastructure upgrades are essential for minimizing outages and enhancing the grid’s resilience and reliability. By modernizing our equipment, DTE is reinforcing the current system while preparing for future energy demands. Our commitment to these improvements ensures that customers will continue to receive the reliable service they depend on.

Upgrading work, like this in Waterford Township, is part of DTE’s plan to build the grid of the future. That plan, now well underway, includes transitioning to a smart grid, upgrading existing infrastructure, rebuilding significant portions of the grid and trimming trees.
