DTE crews worked today to improve reliability in West Bloomfield. One specific job was on Orchard Lake Rd. just north of 14 Mile next to the Dairy Queen.

The major upgrade on this job included installing a pole top switch (or PTS as it’s called). A PTS is a switch that essentially allows the grid equipment to be operated remotely. The benefit to this enhancement is that if an outage were to occur, DTE could operate equipment from afar to transfer load or take other steps to keep serving power to the area. This enhancement ensures that power can be restored much faster without waiting for a crew to arrive on-site.

This work will improve reliability for hundreds of customers that live near this area as well as the nearby businesses.

You may see more of our crews in the coming months as part of our accelerated electric reliability projects in your area, including more tree trimming and infrastructure updates. All these projects are underway to improve your service and reliability for the short- and long-term.
