On Friday, a DTE crew upgraded overhead equipment in Detroit near 16th Street and Vernor Highway. They removed porcelain switches on an overhead pole and replaced them with newer model polymer switches. Porcelain tends to break over time whereas polymer does not crack as easily.  This work also prepares underground crews to come out on Saturday and upgrade a nearby transformer (pictured below) to a more reliable model. DTE Energy is constantly improving the durability and safety of its electrical systems to make sure that customers have reliable power when they need it.

You may see more of our crews in the coming months as part of our accelerated electric reliability projects in your area, including more tree trimming and infrastructure updates. All these projects are underway to improve your service and reliability for the short- and long term.

Make sure to regularly check the Detroit – District 6 community page to learn more about what’s going on in your neighborhood. You can also follow DTE on Facebook and Twitter for even more updates and information.
