Late last week, a tree branch crashed down onto a power line in a Southfield neighborhood causing the line to briefly catch fire. This tree-related interference caused a pocket of Southfield customers to lose power. Our tree trim and overhead crews quickly came together to restore power to nearby residents and repair the energy grid.

The tree trim crew went in first to cut the part of the tree that fell on the de-energized wire. Our overhead line workers then came in and repaired the de-energized wire by cutting off the section that was damaged and adding on new wiring. Thanks to their safe and efficient work, the neighborhood was quickly restored after a few hours without power.

Below are some photos of our tree trimmers and line workers on the scene.

You may see more of our crews in the coming months as part of our accelerated electric reliability projects in your area, including more tree trimming and infrastructure updates. All these projects are underway to improve your service and reliability for the short- and long-term.

Make sure to regularly check the Southfield community page to learn more about what’s going on in your neighborhood. You can also follow DTE on Facebook and Twitter for even more updates and information.
