Restore before repair. This is DTE’s pledge regarding power outages caused by damaged equipment. As long as it’s safe to do so, DTE crews will prioritize getting your power back up and running before starting system repairs. For example, crews were recently alerted to an outage in Detroit near Fisher Freeway and West Fort Street. Our team quickly switched the affected neighborhood’s electrical load to another circuit, restoring power within four hours. After ensuring nearby homes and businesses were reenergized, our team then located the cause of the outage (an underground cable fault) and replaced the damaged section with brand new cabling. The crew did a fast and safe restoration first, then moved to the longer-term repair. This work will make that portion of the grid less likely to falter in the future.

You may see more of our crews in the coming months as part of our accelerated electric reliability projects in your area, including more tree trimming and infrastructure updates. All these projects are underway to improve your service and reliability for the short and long-term.

Make sure to regularly check the Detroit – District 6 community page to learn more about what’s going on in your neighborhood. You can also follow DTE on Facebook and Twitter for even more updates and information.
