Crews took advantage of the warmer weather to launch an important reliability project in Madison Heights. In the first of many pole replacements along East Lincoln Avenue, crews removed a pole recently damaged by a tractor trailer. While crews were responding to a damaged pole in this instance, they will also be proactively updating poles along East Lincoln Avenue in the weeks and months ahead to improve the system’s resiliency against increasingly severe weather.

The team safely and carefully placed a new pole near the damaged one, removed equipment from the original pole and then placed new, more durable equipment on the pole before removing the old, damaged one.

This work is part of our four-point plan to improve reliability across the communities we serve, which includes upgrading existing infrastructure, rebuilding older sections of the grid, transitioning to a smart grid and trimming trees.

Upgrades like this will continue as we work to develop the grid of the future. You can see what we are working on next by using our electric reliability improvements map or by visiting empoweringmichigan.com/reliability-improvements.
