DTE and the DTE Foundation wrapped up the FIRST Robotics 2021-22 season with a return to Saginaw Valley State University and the FIRST in Michigan State Championships. As the title sponsor, we strive to help robotics students reach their potential through this important STEM program.

This year, we sponsored 26 FIRST Robotics Competition teams around Michigan and multiple regional competitions. The energy was palpable, especially after being away from in-person events over the past couple years. Many of our employees volunteer through FIRST, either at events like the State Championship, or through mentorship of teams. We also support groups like the Motor City Alliance, which empowers teams in Detroit to collaborate and excel.

Through FIRST, students build robots as a team and compete at events throughout the season. Along the way, students learn valuable skills that will help them in their future careers. They learn technical skills and programming, along with business and marketing. They also learn teamwork, gracious professionalism, and innovative ways to solve problems.

Many FIRST students come to DTE as co-ops or interns. We hope as these students start their careers, they consider working with us at DTE. Their energy and creativity can help us solve some of the larger issues facing our industry and our world.

Hear from the students about how FIRST is helping them shape a better future.
