“Cutouts” serve as the unsung heroes of reliability. They are safety devices used to protect electrical equipment and ensure safe energy distribution. They work by disconnecting power in the event of a short circuit to prevent further damage. A recent project in Hamburg, Michigan involved the replacement of old cutouts on a pole, a critical component in the distribution system. The cutouts were reaching the end of their useful life and needed to be replaced to ensure safety and reliability of the system. These cutouts are essential to delivering power in the following ways:

  • Protect electrical equipment: Cutouts disconnect power in the event of an issue, ensuring the safety of the equipment and those around it.
  • Ensure reliability: Cutouts ensure reliability of systems by efficiently disconnecting power when needed, preventing outages and minimizing downtime for customers.
  • Maintain safe conditions: In the event of a fault, cutouts prevent fires and other hazards.

The team successfully completed the upgrade, and the new cutouts will provide a safer, more reliable electrical system for the residents and businesses of Hamburg.
