From being intrigued by the Mackinaw City wind turbines (Michigan’s first!) as a child to maintaining wind turbines 300 feet above the ground, Anthony London has always had a passion for renewable energy.

“Wind turbines looked like alien spaceships to me as a kid,” said Anthony. “I’ve been fascinated with them my whole life. When I was 16, my interest shifted from wind turbines to all types of renewable energy.”

That interest continued as Anthony developed from a young man with a car, a dog and a few hundred dollars in his pocket into a husband, a father, a friend and a solar technician at DTE.

Anthony’s career in renewables began at the Michigan Institute of Aviation and Technology, where he attended the wind turbine maintenance program with his brother. After graduating, Anthony traveled the country with multiple jobs in renewables before coming back home to Michigan. He joined DTE as a wind technician in 2020 and transitioned to a solar technician role in January 2024.

“Interestingly, I’ve found that the responsibilities and processes of wind and solar technicians are similar,” said Anthony. “Even some of the hardware is the same. The biggest difference is now I’m doing my job with two feet on the ground.”

Being a skilled wind or solar technician requires more than just an aptitude for science and electrical work. Anthony finds that the ability to solve problems, a positive mindset and a passion for renewables are tools that help him succeed.

“I like working in the renewables space because I enjoy the comradery with my coworkers and simultaneously believe in the work I’m doing,” said Anthony. “At DTE in particular, I have had the pleasure of working with seriously good people with great minds – leaders who see my potential and push me in the right direction, listen to my ideas and are openly appreciative of the work I do.”

Anthony is excited for the future of renewables, the continued growth of DTE and the trajectory of his career as a solar technician.
