DTE Energy remains laser focused on building a stronger grid. We accomplish this, in part, by identifying equipment in the field that is in need of an upgrade.
That brought our crews recently to the corner of Six Mile Road and Newburgh Road in Livonia. Specifically, our crews have been installing many new power poles along Newburgh Road. These new poles will provide more durable and reliable service to our customers. Along with the new poles, there will also be new pole top connectors and cross arms which are much stronger and more durable than the ones they are replacing. These combined upgrades will provide our customers with a better performing grid, especially during extreme weather situations.
DTE is dedicated to constructing a smarter, stronger and more resilient grid to enhance reliability. Our commitment to customers is to reduce power outages by 30% and to cut outage durations in half by the end of 2029.
Upgrading work is part of DTE’s plan to build the grid of the future. That plan, now well underway, includes transitioning to a smart grid, upgrading existing infrastructure, rebuilding significant portions of the grid and trimming trees.
