Colder weather often leads to higher energy bills, and that can be difficult for many households. Take a few simple steps now to prepare your home and your DTE account for increased winter energy use – it could even save you money this winter.
Set up your DTE account
- Create an online account
- Choose your notification preferences, such as high usage alerts or payment due reminders
- Enroll in payment programs that work for your lifestyle and budget
- Check your natural gas supplier – it may not be DTE. If you’re using an alternative gas supplier, you will see a call out box on your bill comparing their rate to DTE’s regulated rate.
Understand last winter’s energy use
- Our free Bill Analyzer Tool will show you how your home used energy last winter and give you personalized tips to save this winter.
- If you’re a DTE electric customer, our Insight App will show you your home’s electric usage so you can find ways to reduce your winter bill.
Make changes at home
- Install a programmable thermostat (we have rebates you might qualify for on the DTE Marketplace)
- Move furniture and drapes if needed so your vents aren’t blocked
- Run your ceiling fans clockwise to pull warm air down from the ceiling
