When a community comes together around a shared purpose, the results can be powerful.

That was certainly the case in Saline, where the Mrs. Tu Memorial Fundraising Campaign recently exceeded its $15,000 goal – thanks to the generosity of local residents, the Tu family and a final boost from DTE Energy.

More than 100 community members rallied behind the campaign, contributing $11,600 to support improvements at the Saline Recreation Center. As the campaign neared its goal, DTE stepped in as the “caboose,” contributing $6,100 to help the community cross the finish line. In addition, the Tu family committed $30,000, bringing the total raised to nearly $48,000.

“This campaign showed the true heart of our community. Every donation – big or small – helped us honor Mrs. Tu’s legacy and create improvements that will make a real difference for our members,” said Parks and Recreation Director, Sunshine Lambert. “We’re incredibly grateful to everyone who stepped up, including DTE, for helping us reach the finish line.”

To celebrate this milestone, DTE joined community leaders and the Tu family for a check presentation on Friday, March 20 at the Saline Recreation Center.

The funds will support meaningful locker room improvements, including new lockers and private changing spaces – updates that will enhance the experience for everyone who uses the facility.

“At DTE, we’re proud to support the communities we serve, especially when we can help bring a shared goal across the finish line. Being part of moments like this is why community partnerships matter to us,” said Molly Luempert-Coy, DTE Regional Manager. “This campaign is a great example of what’s possible when neighbors, families and partners come together to make a lasting impact.”

This campaign reflects what’s possible when a community rallies around a shared purpose. Mrs. Tu’s legacy lives on not just in the improvements coming to the Saline Recreation Center, but in the generosity, pride and partnership that made them possible. DTE is honored to stand alongside the Tu family and the Saline community – helping turn a collective vision into lasting impact.
