At DTE Energy, we’re working hard to make sure families and businesses in Cass City have power they can count on—no matter what kind of weather comes our way. That’s why we’re investing $55 million to rebuild and modernize the electric infrastructure that brings energy to your community.
This project covers 17 miles of power lines and will help make the electric system stronger, safer and ready for the future.
What we’re doing
-
Replacing more than 450 old wooden poles with new steel poles that will help keep the power lines standing tall during storms.
-
Rebuilding 13 miles of power lines using stronger materials and a modern design to prevent future outages.
-
Installing four miles of new power lines to move part of the system out of deep, hard-to-reach areas so crews can make repairs faster should the equipment be damaged.
-
Improving the electrical infrastructure within substations to keep electricity flowing smoothly, safely and efficiently to the community.
-
Trimming and clearing trees near power lines to reduce outage risk. Fallen trees and branches account for half the time our customers are without power.
These upgrades will create a stronger, more resilient electric grid and reduce the likelihood of future outages, especially during extreme weather conditions. In addition to improving electric reliability, the upgraded system will support future growth and help meet increasing energy demands.
Construction is scheduled to begin in March 2026 and continue through August 2029, with work taking place in phases throughout the area. DTE crews, engineers and installation contractors will be working along the route. Construction will begin on the section between Dodge Road to M-81 and continue south to Bevens Road throughout the project duration.

This rebuilding work is part of DTE’s plan to build the grid of the future and supports our commitment to reducing power outages by 30% and cutting outage times in half by the end of 2029.
We appreciate your patience and cooperation as we work to provide safe, reliable power to Cass City and the surrounding communities. Learn more about work happening in your community at dteenergy.com/powermap.
