DTE Energy is committed to building the electric grid of the future. As part of this commitment, DTE is investing more than $7 million to rebuild the infrastructure that delivers power to homes and businesses in the city of Wayne.

This project, which DTE began in 2023 and expects to complete later this year, includes:

  • Installing 15 miles of new poles, power lines and electrical equipment. This equipment is stronger and can better withstand extreme weather.
  • Trimming trees or removing trees growing close to power lines. Fallen trees are responsible for nearly half the time customers spend without power.
  • Connecting customers to an upgraded electric substation. The upgraded substation will help ensure electricity continues to be delivered safely and more reliably to customers as electric demand continues to grow.

These upgrades are expected to improve electric reliability by up to 90% for customers served by the new equipment and upgraded substation.

In addition to boosting reliability, the project will enhance safety and add capacity to the electric grid to support growth and more electric energy options like electric vehicles and appliances.

Rebuilding work like this is part of DTE’s plan to build the grid of the future. Learn more about work happening in your neighborhood by visiting empoweringmichigan.com/reliability-improvements or the DTE Power Improvements Map.
