DTE Energy is focused on building a stronger grid across our service territory. This effort is at the core of our priority to provide a more reliable grid. We do this, in part, by installing upgrades to strategic locations to better serve our customers. This can range from isolated upgrades where our crews might upgrade a pole with a new set of cross arms, or this could be bigger projects that affect hundreds of poles.
Here, at the corner of Hill Street and Greene Street in Ann Arbor, our crews have identified a piece of equipment that requires an upgrade. A new transformer has been installed to better handle the increased load in the area. By making upgrades like these, the overall health of the grid will become better equipped to provide the high-quality service that our customers expect. The performance of the grid will be greatly increased, especially during extreme weather situations.
Enhancing infrastructure is crucial for minimizing outages and strengthening grid resilience. By investing in cutting-edge equipment, we are ready to meet future energy needs and deliver reliable, consistent service to our customers.
DTE Energy is dedicated to constructing a smarter, stronger and more resilient grid to enhance reliability. Our commitment to customers is to reduce power outages by 30% and to cut outage durations in half by the end of 2029.
This upgrading work is part of DTE’s plan to build the grid of the future. That plan, now well underway, includes transitioning to a smart grid, upgrading existing infrastructure, rebuilding significant portions of the grid and trimming trees.
