DTE Energy is dedicated to constructing a smarter, stronger and more resilient grid to enhance reliability. Our commitment to customers is to reduce power outages by 30% and to cut outage durations in half by 2029.
As we work to strengthen the grid, our crews in Ypsilanti Township are servicing several power poles in the area. To boost reliability, they have been identifying poles here in need of upgrades. Recently, the team focused on the corner of Ellsworth Road and Golfside Road, where they installed a new pole along with all essential equipment like new cross arms and connectors. In addition, a brand-new transformer has also been installed to round out the upgrades to this specific location. Upgrades like these are happening in Ypsilanti Township and all across our service areas. They help to strengthen the grid and improve reliability. These upgrades will enhance the grid’s performance, particularly during extreme weather.
Infrastructure upgrades like these are crucial for reducing outages and boosting the grid’s resilience and reliability. Upgrading work is part of DTE’s plan to build the grid of the future. That plan, now well underway, includes transitioning to a smart grid, upgrading existing infrastructure, rebuilding significant portions of the grid and trimming trees.
