As a part of our four-point plan to provide Southeast Michigan with the grid of the future, we are upgrading equipment across our electric service territory. That includes replacing overhead power lines and other equipment to make our system more resilient. Overhead power lines can incur damage caused by fallen trees and limbs due to extreme weather and even accidents. Constant exposure to the elements can also result in damage to overhead cables. Crews were dispatched to downtown Ann Arbor to complete an equipment upgrade for this pole, including replacement of an older switch. Switches are used to turn electric circuits on and off and to switch electric circuits. Switches are key components to our infrastructure and improve reliability for our customers.
