Looking to make a difference in your community? Volunteering is an important part of building and restoring a community, and it’s engrained in our company DNA. There are many organizations that could use your help in Michigan. Join us at one of these nonprofit organizations that are always looking for volunteers and donations to assist with their efforts to create a brighter future.

Focus:HOPE – Focus:HOPE has been helping in the Detroit and Metro Detroit areas for over 50 years. They are a nationally recognized organization that is dedicated to implementing “intelligent and practical action to overcome racism, poverty, and injustice.” You can get involved by joining their community development project, packaging and delivering food to senior citizens, reading and tutoring children, and many other ways.

Heart of West Michigan United Way – Heart of West Michigan United Way is dedicated to tearing down barriers for those who struggle to get by, by lending a hand in times of crisis and investing in long-term solutions to help individuals and communities realize their potential. Through their Community Grant Fund, they provide grant funding in six critical issue areas. They also administer three internal programs: The Volunteer Center, 2-1-1, and the Kent County Tax Credit Coalition.

Gleaners Community Food Bank – Gleaners Community Food Bank was established in 1977 and has been providing southeast Michigan with nutritious foods and resources ever since. They have delivered millions of pounds of emergency food to partnering soup kitchens and shelters. Ways you can lend a helping hand include volunteering at distribution centers, food pantries or My Neighborhood Mobile Grocery, which is their special pop-up market.

The Greening of Detroit – Specializing in urban agriculture, The Greening of Detroit has been helping the Detroit community by providing neighborhoods with “healthy urban community through trees, green spaces, healthy living, education, training and job opportunities.” They have planted over 130,000 trees in Detroit, Hamtramck and Highland Park, and have also helped adults and youth with workforce development. They offer a calendar of events where you can sign up to help plant trees, clean up parks and help with garden work across Detroit.

Arts & Scraps – Arts & Scraps is a nonprofit organization based in Detroit that helps people of all ages think, create and learn. Using materials donated by businesses across Metro Detroit, Arts & Scraps hosts various workshops and events throughout southeastern Michigan. You can lend a helping hand by preparing kits and materials at their warehouse, assisting with public and private events or even joining a committee dedicating to helping Arts &Scraps.
