DTE Energy is dedicated to constructing a smarter, stronger and more resilient grid to enhance reliability. Our commitment to customers is to reduce power outages by 30% and to cut outage durations in half by 2029.

As a part of our plan to increase reliability, crews have been performing infrastructure upgrades in Livonia. These upgrades include the installation of all new pole-top equipment such as more durable cross arms, connectors, transformers and even power-poles themselves.

Recently, a crew was dispatched to the corner of Lyndon Street and Garden to install these upgrades. A new pole has been dropped here and they are going to finish up by installing the new pole-top gear as well. These upgrades will greatly improve the performance of the electric service provided in the area, especially in extreme weather situations.

The importance of these infrastructure upgrades is crucial to accomplish the goal of reducing outages. Installing this new equipment is one key in our plan to build a stronger and more reliable grid. DTE will continue to do this kind of work, not only to improve reliability, but also to help with the increased demand for electricity in the years to come.

This upgrading work is part of DTE’s plan to build the grid of the future. That plan, now well underway, includes transitioning to a smart grid, upgrading existing infrastructure, rebuilding significant portions of the grid and trimming trees.
