As DTE Energy continues to build a stronger grid, our crews are in the field executing infrastructure upgrades. Recently, this brought them to the intersection of Beck Road and Five Mile Road in Northville.
Here, our crews installed a new power pole along with a new pole top switch. This pole is much stronger than the previous one, and after adding more upgrades such as cross arms and connectors, will provide better reliability. The role of that new pole top switch is to provide a connection point to the larger grid in the area. If a portion of that grid experiences an outage, this switch will then access power from the other portion that is still energized. This will greatly improve the safety and efficiency of the grid locally and provide better performance for overall, even during extreme weather situations.
Upgrading infrastructure is vital to reducing outages and enhancing grid resilience and reliability. Through modernizing equipment, DTE is strengthening the system to meet future energy demands. Our dedication to these improvements ensures that customers receive the reliable service they depend on.
DTE Energy is dedicated to constructing a smarter, stronger and more resilient grid to enhance reliability. Our commitment to customers is to reduce power outages by 30% and to cut outage durations in half by the end of 2029.
Upgrading work is part of DTE’s plan to build the grid of the future. That plan, now well underway, includes transitioning to a smart grid, upgrading existing infrastructure, rebuilding significant portions of the grid and trimming trees.
