The first official business day of 2022 saw DTE crews performing several significant upgrades in Farmington Hills off Haggerty Rd just south of Nine Mile Rd. These upgrades will make service to the area more resilient to storms and outages with some new reclosers and transformers for a main circuit.
A recloser (what the crew is unboxing and preparing in the photographs below) is an automatic, high-voltage electric switch—essentially a huge circuit breaker. This equipment has current and voltage sensors that protect the system against lightning strikes, surges or foreign objects coming into contact with lines.
In all, three reclosers and four transformers were installed on utility poles next to the Gentherm office building. This work will improve and strengthen the service for customers in this area especially when severe weather strikes.
You may see more of our crews in the coming months as part of our accelerated electric reliability projects in your area, including more tree trimming and infrastructure updates. All these projects are underway to improve your service and reliability for the short- and long-term.
