Providing the electricity you depend on every day is both a responsibility and a privilege. From your morning coffee and charging your devices, to preparing meals and keeping your home comfortable, we know reliable power matters.
That’s why we’re continuing to strengthen Michigan’s electric system with improvements to the electric grid designed to help prevent outages and shorten restoration times when they do happen.
How we’re strengthening the grid
Across Ypsilanti, our crews are investing in upgrades that make the electric grid more resilient. This year, we plan to:
- Trim more than 100 miles of trees near power lines to reduce one of the leading causes of outages.
- Inspect and upgrade more than 400 miles of aging equipment with newer, more durable electrical equipment.
This proactive work will help reduce both the number of outages and the amount of time you spend without power.
Building on recent progress
The improvements we’re making today build on the progress achieved last year when our customers experienced the best reliability in nearly 20 years. In your community, system upgrades and improved processes helped reduce the time you spent without power by 54%. That means fewer interruptions and faster restoration when outages do occur.
We’re encouraged by this progress, but we also know extreme weather will continue to impact our state. That was clear in April, when a powerful storm brought 70+ miles per hour winds to southeast Michigan, causing widespread outages. Despite the severe damage, our crews restored power to more than 99% of affected customers within 24 hours.
