DTE Energy continues to be laser focused on strengthening the grid. There are many ways we plan to accomplish this goal.

One way involves our front-line crews, who head into the field every day to inspect equipment that could be due for an upgrade. Once identified, our crews return and make the necessary upgrades to equipment.

This brought them recently to the corner of Huron Street and Cross Street in Ypsilanti, near Riverside Park and historic Depot Town, where our crew have installed two brand new power poles with the accompanying cross arms, connectors, and a new transformer. These two new poles are taller and more durable than the predecessors. These upgrades will improve the overall reliability in the area. By doing these types of work all across our service territory, our customers will see an increase in performance, especially during extreme weather situations.

Upgrading our infrastructure is essential for minimizing outages and enhancing grid resilience. By strategically investing in advanced technologies, we can effectively meet future energy demands and deliver reliable, uninterrupted service to our customers.

DTE Energy is dedicated to constructing a smarter, stronger and more resilient grid to enhance reliability. Our commitment to customers is to reduce power outages by 30% and to cut outage durations in half by the end of 2029.

Upgrading work is part of DTE’s plan to build the grid of the future. That plan, now well underway, includes transitioning to a smart grid, upgrading existing infrastructure, rebuilding significant portions of the grid and trimming trees.
