DTE Energy is working to reduce power outages by 30% and to cut outage durations in half by 2029.

We will achieve this by building the grid of the future, which includes transitioning to a smart grid, upgrading existing infrastructure, rebuilding older sections of the grid and trimming trees.

A recent example of our smart grid work is shown at the intersection of Ann Arbor-Saline Road and Eisenhower Parkway in southern Ann Arbor, where crews recently installed a new recloser. This installation will help to improve safety and boost reliability for both commercial and residential customers in this bustling area.

Thousands more reclosers are slated for installation throughout the communities we serve between now and the end of 2028. With these reclosers in place, we can help prevent localized outages from resulting in widespread issues. Why? Reclosers are designed to swiftly pinpoint outage sources, enabling us to restore power toa portion of customers, while our crews make repairs.

Looking ahead to 2029, we expect the full automation of our grid through the deployment of smart grid devices.
