As DTE Energy continues to build a stronger grid, our crews have been focused on identifying areas where upgrades are needed. Recently our crews were in Saline, at the corner of Ann Arbor – Saline Road and Weber Road, checking to see where a fault may have occurred in an underground cable.

Once found, our crews dig down until they find the cable that is in need of repair. Then, they go in and splice the cable to bring it back up to its high performing capabilities. Identifying equipment in need of work, like this, is crucial in our efforts towards building a stronger grid. Whether that is to find older poles that need replacing or identifying trees that may cause issues with our equipment. They all work hand in hand to build a better grid. These upgrades will create a better performing grid, especially during extreme weather situations.

Enhancing infrastructure is essential to reducing outages and strengthening grid resilience. Through advanced technology, we are ready to meet future energy demands and deliver dependable, uninterrupted service to our customers.

DTE Energy is dedicated to constructing a smarter, stronger and more resilient grid to enhance reliability. Our commitment to customers is to reduce power outages by 30% and to cut outage durations in half by the end of 2029.

This upgrading work is part of DTE’s plan to build the grid of the future. That plan, now well underway, includes transitioning to a smart grid, upgrading existing infrastructure, rebuilding significant portions of the grid and trimming trees.
