Building a stronger grid is DTE Energy’s mission as our crews continue to work across our service territory, upgrading our current infrastructure with new equipment.

That is just a part of our plan to strengthen the overall grid. First, our crews must patrol and identify equipment that needs upgrading. That’s what they were out doing recently in Ann Arbor, on the corner of Bluett Road and Burbank Drive. The crew was checking on the underground equipment in the neighborhood to see where upgrades were needed. After their inspection, they determined that the cable in the area would need to be upgraded, so they made plans to return soon to execute these upgrades. These will greatly improve the performance in the neighborhood, especially during extreme weather situations.

Modernizing infrastructure is vital for reducing outages and improving grid resilience. DTE is upgrading its equipment to meet future energy demands, delivering consistent and reliable service to customers.

DTE Energy is dedicated to constructing a smarter, stronger and more resilient grid to enhance reliability. Our commitment to customers is to reduce power outages by 30% and to cut outage durations in half by the end of 2029.

Upgrading work is part of DTE’s plan to build the grid of the future. That plan, now well underway, includes transitioning to a smart grid, upgrading existing infrastructure, rebuilding significant portions of the grid and trimming trees.
