DTE is carrying out a four-point plan to provide our communities with more reliable power. This plan includes tree trimming, upgrading our infrastructure, implementing smart grid technology and rebuilding the oldest sections of our grid. As part of the work, we’re modernizing and strengthening our grid in Detroit by replacing the oldest components on our electrical poles.

Crossarms are vital components on electrical poles. They provide support and insulation for electrical lines, ensuring safe and efficient delivery of your power. Crossarms also help maintain appropriate clearance between power lines and other objects, reducing the risk of accidents, electrical interference and damage to the system. Over time, exposure to extreme weather and wear can cause them to weaken and become more prone to failure.

Crews have been replacing the older, wooden crossarms with new fiberglass crossarms. These help reduce the risk of future outages and enhance the safety of our customers.

You may see more of our crews in the coming months as part of our accelerated electric reliability projects in your area, including more tree trimming and infrastructure updates. All these projects are underway to improve your service and reliability in the short and long term.

Make sure to regularly check the Wayne County community page to learn more about what is going on in your neighborhood. You can also follow DTE on Facebook and Twitter for even more updates and information.
