DTE Energy is dedicated to constructing a smarter, stronger, more resilient grid to enhance reliability. Our commitment to customers is to reduce power outages by 30% and to cut outage durations in half — by 2029.
In Northville, a new redevelopment project is underway at the former site of the Northville Downs harness racetrack. Our front-line crews have begun preparing infrastructure at the site for new businesses and residences coming to the area. This also means the grid in this area of Northville is receiving a reliability upgrade.
The work now being done will upgrade the electric infrastructure at the former racetrack.
DTE power poles currently located at the Northville Downs site must first be inspected to determine the extent of work that needed. Upgrades can range from replacing cross-arms atop the poles or doing full installation of new poles and equipment. The work being done today involved transferring the equipment from the older poles to new, more durable poles that have already been installed. This is happening across this redevelopment area as we prepare for the increased demand on the grid with the number of new businesses expected.
DTE is building the grid of the future. The plan, well underway, includes transitioning to a smart grid, upgrading existing infrastructure, rebuilding significant portions of the grid and trimming trees. These are at the core of our plan as we work to increase reliability in Northville and for the many communities we serve.
