DTE Energy is focused on building a stronger, more resilient electric grid by upgrading our current infrastructure. One way we accomplish this is by patrolling and identifying equipment that needs to be replaced and/or upgraded to perform better.
This brought our crews recently to the intersection of Crossgate Road and Aldingbrooke Circle Drive in West Bloomfield, where they performed upgrades to the underground service in this area. Specifically, they installed new underground cabinets and over 1000 feet of cable. These new cabinets will isolate an outage if one were to occur, meaning that instead of the entire local grid going down, this equipment will isolate service where the problem has occurred. The new cable will provide a more efficient service to customers in the area and is more durable than the cable that was there before. These upgrades will perform better overall, especially during extreme weather situations.
DTE is dedicated to constructing a smarter, stronger and more resilient grid to enhance reliability. Our commitment to customers is to reduce power outages by 30% and to cut outage durations in half by the end of 2029.
Upgrading work is one part of DTE’s plan to build the grid of the future. That plan, now well underway, includes transitioning to a smart grid, upgrading existing infrastructure, rebuilding significant portions of the grid and trimming trees.
