DTE Energy remains laser focused on efforts to build a stronger, more resilient electric grid. Our front line field crews are in the field every day inspecting our overhead and underground equipment, checking for infrastructure that may be ready for an upgrade.

This brought them recently to Pittsfield Township, at the corner of Castaway Lane and Merritt Road, where the crews began executing some major underground upgrades. They are scheduled to overhaul the entirety of Castaway Lane’s underground equipment. New underground cables and new transformers are scheduled to be installed to strengthen the electrical reliability in this suburban neighborhood. The new cable is more durable and safer than what is currently there, meaning less outages for customers in the area. Once completed, customers can expect to see an improvement in electrical performance, especially during extreme weather situations.

Upgrading our infrastructure is essential to reducing outages and improving grid resilience. By strategically investing in advanced technologies, we can efficiently meet future energy needs and deliver reliable, uninterrupted service to our customers.

DTE Energy is dedicated to constructing a smarter, stronger and more resilient grid to enhance reliability. Our commitment to customers is to reduce power outages by 30% and to cut outage durations in half by the end of 2029.

Upgrading work is part of DTE’s plan to build the grid of the future. That plan, now well underway, includes transitioning to a smart grid, upgrading existing infrastructure, rebuilding significant portions of the grid and trimming trees.
