As DTE Energy continues the initiative to build a stronger, more resilient grid, our crews have been working extensively in Pontiac.
Specifically, at the intersection of Saginaw Street and Lafayette Street, our crews have been busy doing key inspections of our underground equipment in the downtown area. They have been prepping as part of a $31 million project. They must first check the equipment that is there to determine exactly what needs to be installed during the project. This will include new underground equipment and provide better reliability for downtown Pontiac and the surrounding area. Customers can expect to see an increase in performance, especially during extreme weather situations.
Upgrading infrastructure is essential for reducing outages and strengthening grid resilience and reliability. By modernizing equipment, DTE is reinforcing the system to meet future energy needs. Our dedication to these improvements ensures customers enjoy dependable service for years to come.
DTE Energy is dedicated to constructing a smarter, stronger and more resilient grid to enhance reliability. Our commitment to customers is to reduce power outages by 30% and to cut outage durations in half by the end of 2029.
Upgrading work is part of DTE’s plan to build the grid of the future. That plan, now well underway, includes transitioning to a smart grid, upgrading existing infrastructure, rebuilding significant portions of the grid and trimming trees.
