DTE Energy is dedicated to constructing a smarter, stronger and more resilient grid to enhance reliability. Our commitment to our customers is to reduce power outages by 30% and to cut outage durations in half by 2029.

As part of this commitment, we are working to make sure our customers in Sylvan Lake experience fewer and shorter power outages. One way we accomplish this is by upgrading our current infrastructure. Crews recently identified equipment at the intersection of Orchard Lake Road and Middlebelt Road that needed replacement. They have recently installed a new transformer that will provide better reliability and the increased electric capacity expected by new businesses coming to the area.

The new equipment will also help us reduce outages in the area. This transformer is an essential piece to ensure that the power stays on. This isn’t a standard transformer that sits atop a pole. The equipment here is part of the underground upgrades we are doing across the communities we serve.

This upgrading work is part of DTE’s plan to build the grid of the future. That plan, now well underway, also includes transitioning to a smart grid, rebuilding significant portions of the grid and trimming trees.
