As DTE Energy keeps busy building a stronger grid, crews are actively seeking out locations where we need to trim trees.

This brought them recently to corner of West Boulevard and Cass Boulevard in Berkley to continue this effort.  Trees were trimmed back to reduce the risk of limbs or branches coming into contact with the equipment, which may result in a disruption of service. In fact, trees and branches are responsible for half of the time our customers spend without power. This ongoing initiative to trim trees is happening across our service area, where more than 3,500 miles of trees have been trimmed so far in 2024. We will continue to identify new locations where we can trim and better protect our electrical equipment.

DTE Energy is dedicated to constructing a smarter, stronger and more resilient grid to enhance reliability. Our commitment to customers is to reduce power outages by 30% and to cut outage durations in half by 2029.

This tree trimming work is part of DTE’s plan to build the grid of the future. That plan, now well underway, includes transitioning to a smart grid, upgrading existing infrastructure, rebuilding significant portions of the grid and trimming trees.
