Did you know trees are responsible for an overwhelming majority of outages during high wind events? The closer tree branches grow next to power lines, the greater the risk of power disruptions. Recently, tree trim crews were in Huntington Woods, near Vernon Avenue and Scotia Road, removing overgrown tree limbs that hang near an electrical circuit responsible for energizing Oak Park, improving reliability for the community.

In late 2021, DTE made a $90 million investment to accelerate tree trimming efforts across the communities it serves to help prevent outages during heavy storms. You can read more about that initiative here. Highlights include:

  • Accelerating tree trimming work for the communities hardest hit by storms last fall
  • Increasing our tree trim workforce by 30%
  • Trimming 5,700 miles of trees near power lines — more than the distance from Detroit to Hawaii — in the last year alone

If trees are creating a safety hazard near your home, please report it to DTE here. We prioritize safety concerns based on the severity of the hazard.
