The technology we are using in Macomb County will improve reliability for our customers for years to come. Crews have been installing smart grid technology, called reclosers, to respond to outages quicker and pinpoint potential issues with equipment. Installing reclosers is a key part of our four-point plan to improve reliability for our electrical customers.

Reclosers work much like the circuit breaker in your home. In an outage, reclosers can automatically detect the cause and alert the nearby substation. These reclosers also pinpoint the location of the outage, allowing our crews to arrive quickly to the point of repair. This technology allows us to receive important data about electrical performance and develop plans to prevent future interruptions. This recloser is just one of many that will be installed throughout 2024.

But our work does not stop with reclosers. In addition to installing smart grid technology, crews are trimming trees, updating our existing infrastructure and rebuilding the oldest sections of our grid to continue to bring you more reliable energy. Check our electrical reliability improvements map to stay up to date with our upgrades and visit the Macomb County community page to read more about how these changes will impact your community.
