Are you looking for some fun this summer? Check out some activities, ranging from festivals and fairs to concerts and food, that can help you stay active and entertained this summer.
Southeast Michigan
June 28 – 30: Go up, up and away at The Michigan Challenge Balloonfest in Howell featuring a hot air balloon launch, carnival games, food vendors, fireworks, a farmers’ market and an animal exhibit.
July 5 – 14: Enjoy 10 days of fun at The Oakland County Fair in Davisburg including carnival games, animal exhibits, a petting zoo, wrestling, a monster truck show and, of course, some delicious fair food.
July 20: Come hungry to The Leonard Strawberry Festival for a bake-off, a pie-eating contest, a car show, a magic show, a parade and a live band.
August 23: Enjoy a night of great music at Ford House’s “Car-Tunes” Concert Series. The Michigan Philharmonic led by Nan Washburn will be playing classic melodies from The Beach Boys along with tracks from Disney’s Cars, Back to the Future, Grease and An American in Paris.
Mid and Northwest Michigan
June 29 – 30: At the Lakeshore Art Festival in Muskegon, you’ll find fine art, artisan food vendors, activities for children and interactive art at the festival. DTE is a partner of this festival helping Muskegon “Keepin’ It Green.”
July 4 – 7: Visit the Cadillac Freedom Festival to celebrate Independence Day weekend with food trucks, carnival games, live music, a craft show, a 5K, a car show, a drone show and fireworks.
July 27 – 28: Join the fun at the GR Asian Pacific Foundation (GRAPF) Global Water Fest in Grand Rapids to watch four beautiful Dragon Boats race down the Grand River while you discover local artisans and enjoy live entertainment at this free event.
August 9 – 11: Tune into the Hoxeyville Music Festival in Manistee. Over 15 artists and bands are set to perform throughout the 3-day event, including headliners Galactic, Sam Bush, Elephant Revival, The Kitchen Dwellers, Lindsay Lou and Myron Elkins.
Northern Michigan
Fridays: Visit the Lavender Farm in Boyne City for free. At the farm, you will find food vendors, face paintings and live music and there are various classes and tours offered.
June 29 – July 6: Traverse City will host its 98th annual National Cherry Festival. The festival will offer a Farmers Market, a Pancake Breakfast, a Volleyball Tournament, a kids club, various shopping and food vendors, an air show and a car show. DTE is a proud sponsor of the Cherry Festival.
July 26: Visit the Marquette Blueberry Festival in Marquette featuring fresh blueberries as well as blueberry-themed drinks and food. Additionally, local restaurants and shops offer “blue specials.”
August 12 – 18: Celebrate the Upper Peninsula at the U.P. State Fair in Escanaba. Experience the U.P. and enjoy all of the carnival activities at a fair that connects agriculture and community.
