DTE Energy is committed to improving reliability for our electric customers in Washtenaw County.
That’s why our underground crews were recently hard at work, near the intersection of Golfside Road and Washtenaw Avenue in Ann Arbor, replacing a span of defective underground cable, thus helping ensure customers on that circuit keep the lights on if something goes wrong.
Replacing this cable allows power to be rerouted if an issue arises in another part of the underground loop, preventing outages before they happen. Replacing the cable requires digging deep underground to install new infrastructure, work that’s worth it to build a more reliable system for customers.
This replacement is part of DTE’s commitment to constructing a smarter, stronger and more resilient grid to enhance reliability, reducing power outages by 30% and cutting outage durations in half by 2029.
By modernizing the grid like this, DTE is also preparing for future energy needs. Our commitment to these improvements guarantees that customers will continue to receive the reliable service they trust.
Upgrading work is part of DTE’s plan to build the grid of the future. That plan, now well underway, includes transitioning to a smart grid, upgrading existing infrastructure, rebuilding significant portions of the grid and trimming trees.
