DTE is committed to building a stronger grid across the many communities we serve. We accomplish this, in part, by identifying key pieces of our infrastructure and providing upgrades across our communities to provide better reliability for our customers.
This work brought crews recently to southeast Ann Arbor, at the corner of Powell Street and Independence Boulevard, where they carried out key upgrades.
Specifically, our crews installed a brand-new pole, along with a piece of smart grid technology called a recloser. This new pole is taller and more durable than its predecessor and the recloser will result in faster restoration times and will be safer for our crews to work on. These upgrades will provide our customers in the area with increased electrical performance, most noticeably during extreme weather situations.
Strengthening our infrastructure is key to minimizing outages and enhancing grid resilience. Through strategic investments in advanced technologies, we can effectively meet future energy needs and ensure reliable, uninterrupted service for our customers.
DTE Energy is dedicated to constructing a smarter, stronger and more resilient grid to enhance reliability. Our commitment to customers is to reduce power outages by 30% and to cut outage durations in half by the end of 2029.
Upgrading work along with automation installation are part of DTE’s plan to build the grid of the future. That plan, now well underway, includes transitioning to a smart grid, upgrading existing infrastructure, rebuilding significant portions of the grid and trimming trees.
