Shawn Patterson, vice president of Environmental Management and Safety, has been recognized by Crain’s Detroit Business as one of Michigan’s Notable Leaders in Sustainability, an honor that reflects his leadership and unwavering commitment to environmental progress. With decades of leadership in the energy sector, Shawn is advancing efforts that make climate change mitigation a core business priority. His work involves government agencies, nonprofits and internal teams to embed sustainability into the very fabric of DTE Energy.

In 2022, under Shawn’s leadership, DTE became a founding member of the Detroit Tree Partnership, a public-private initiative committed to planting 75,000 trees in areas of the city where they’re needed the most. This project marked a defining moment in Shawn’s career, reflecting his deep commitment to sustainability and community impact. By 2024, the partnership celebrated the milestone of 25,000 trees planted and counting.

Shawn is currently on the board of directors for Tandem Global (previously known as Wildlife Habitat Council and World Environment Center) and the Detroit Zoological Society where he serves on the Executive Committee and chairs the Environmental Sustainability Committee.

This recognition is a proud moment for all of DTE. It’s a powerful reflection of Shawn’s impact and a great reminder of what DTE stands for: leading with purpose, innovating responsibly and serving our communities with integrity.
