Q: Tell us about your volunteer service in 2020?

- DTE Impact Program with Cody High School
- Contactless Food Distribution for Senior day at Beacon Park
- Create Care Cards for Homebound Seniors in our Service Territory
- Forgotten Harvest Neighborhood Food Give away at New Providence Baptist Church
Q: Why do you volunteer?
A: I have been blessed with a loving family, a good education, and a fulfilling & successful career. Volunteering gives me an opportunity to share my experiences, skills and knowledge with people who are not aware of opportunities available to them.
Q: Is there a memorable experience that you can share about your volunteer service?
A: Last year working with the DTE Impact Program (Amanda – can we link to video?) and Cody High School was difficult. The entire program was virtual, so we didn’t have hands on interaction with the students. I was so impressed with one student who started out barley talking to stepping up and successfully presented to the entire DTE summer student group.
Q: What would you say to other retirees who are thinking about volunteering?
A: Anyone who has worked long enough to retire has something to offer to others, especially our youth. Volunteering is also a two-way street; you provide knowledge, and you gain new knowledge and information from those you are assisting.
Q: Feel free to add anything else that you may want to share w/ our Alumni Network.
A: I have enjoyed volunteering with friends I used to work with and meeting new retirees who through volunteering have now become friends.
Editor’s note: DTE is fortunate to have Deb representing our values through the IMPACT team and in her other volunteer activities. Last year she contributed a staggering 190 volunteer hours to our Care Force volunteer program. Deb is also an active Alumni Ambassador, a smaller group of DTE Alumni who help share their feedback and ideas to help grow the DTE Alumni Network.
