We’re on a mission to build a smarter, stronger and more resilient power grid, so you have reliable power, no matter what Mother Nature brings to Michigan. That’s why we’re building the grid of the future.

Rebuilding significant portions of our grid is one way we’re updating our grid to provide safer, more reliable power for you. Upon completion, these projects are expected to improve reliability by up to 90% for the customers served by the new electrical equipment.

Here’s how we’re working to make your power more reliable.

  • Last summer, we started construction on three new substations – in Shelby Township, Northville and Pontiac. This $100 million investment will support the growing industrial and commercial demand in these communities and are expected to improve reliability for those served by the new substations.
  • We recently finished installing the new poles, power lines and other electric equipment that delivers power to Port Huron and are connecting customers to the new substation. This $100 million project is expected to improve reliability by up to 90% for the customers served by the new substation and electric equipment.
  • We’re on pace to invest $360 million between 2019 and 2029 to modernize Ann Arbor’s infrastructure. By rebuilding and upgrading the electric equipment that delivers power to customers, we’ll improve reliability and support the city’s sustainability goals.
  • We’re investing $1.2 billion to modernize the infrastructure that powers. This work will support the growth and the growing electric needs of customers in the city.

Rebuilding significant portions of our grid is part of our plan to build the grid of the future, which also includes accelerating our transition to a smart grid, upgrading existing infrastructure, and trimming or removing trees
