DTE Energy is dedicated to building a stronger electric grid. One way we are working toward this goal is by upgrading infrastructure.  This work can range from installing new transformers and underground cables to new poles and trimming trees.

Recently in Ann Arbor, at the intersection of Huron Parkway and Platt Road, our crews installed brand new power poles, along with cross arms, connectors and new wiring. More than 5 new poles at this area alone will increase the stability of the local grid. Work like this is happening across the communities we serve by crews traveling and identifying pieces of our equipment that are due for upgrades or replacements. This work will increase the performance of the grid overall, especially during extreme weather situations.

DTE Energy is dedicated to constructing a smarter, stronger and more resilient grid to enhance reliability. Our commitment to customers is to reduce power outages by 30% and to cut outage durations in half by the end of 2029.

Upgrading work is part of DTE’s plan to build the grid of the future. That plan, now well underway, includes transitioning to a smart grid, upgrading existing infrastructure, rebuilding significant portions of the grid and trimming trees.
