DTE Energy is laser focused on building a stronger grid. This initiative can take many forms, whether it’s a full rebuild of a neighborhood’s electric grid, or just one pole that gets needed upgrades.
Recently, at the corner of Nura Court and Clubview Drive in Ypsilanti, our crews were upgrading this pole with a brand-new pole top switch. This pole top switch basically enables remote operation of grid equipment. The upgrade allows DTE to manage equipment remotely during an outage, transferring electric load or taking necessary actions to maintain the power supply in the area. As a result, power can be restored much faster without the need to wait for a crew to arrive on-site. This will increase the performance of the grid overall, especially during extreme weather situations.
Enhancing our infrastructure is crucial for reducing outages and strengthening grid resilience. Through strategic investments in advanced technologies, we can efficiently meet future energy needs and provide our customers with reliable, uninterrupted service.
DTE Energy is dedicated to constructing a smarter, stronger and more resilient grid to enhance reliability. Our commitment to customers is to reduce power outages by 30% and to cut outage durations in half by the end of 2029.
Upgrading work is part of DTE’s plan to build the grid of the future. That plan, now well underway, includes transitioning to a smart grid, upgrading existing infrastructure, rebuilding significant portions of the grid and trimming trees.
