DTE Energy is dedicated to constructing a smarter, stronger and more resilient grid to enhance reliability. Our commitment to customers is to reduce power outages by 30% and to cut outage durations in half by 2029.
A big part of our process of building a stronger grid is to rebuild significant portions of it. This work at the corner of Ann Arbor Road and Oakridge Court will better prepare Ann Arbor for increased electrical demand and help to reroute and upgrade power service to maintain a higher level of reliability.
This work is being done by multiple crews working at several locations in unison to ensure any power interruptions are at a minimum for our customers.
The goal of the conversion/rebuild is to reroute energy to where it’s needed most to improve the reliability of higher demand communities. Along with that, new equipment will be installed including poles, cross arms, underground cable, and transformers. This will all go to increase the performance in the area, especially during extreme weather situations. Customers will also by converted up to a higher voltage, which will help with expected future electric growth.
This infrastructure rebuild is vital to our goal of minimizing outages and building a stronger, more reliable grid. By modernizing our equipment, DTE is not only strengthening our current system but also positioning ourselves to meet the rising demand for electricity in the years ahead. We are fully dedicated to these initiatives, ensuring our customers receive the reliable service they depend on.
Rebuilding work is part of DTE’s plan to build the grid of the future. That plan, now well underway, includes transitioning to a smart grid, upgrading existing infrastructure, rebuilding significant portions of the grid and trimming trees.
