DTE Energy is dedicated to constructing a smarter, stronger and more resilient grid to enhance reliability. Our commitment to customers is to reduce power outages by 30% and to cut outage durations in half by 2029.
As we continue to work towards building a stronger grid, our crews are identifying key locations where upgrades can be made. This can vary from equipment or infrastructure replacements, trees that need to be trimmed, or brand-new power pole installations.
Recently, our crews were in Ann Arbor to begin executing on these pieces that are deemed necessary upgrades. Specifically, at the corner of Hickory Point Drive and Foxway Drive, our crews were installing two brand new underground transformers. Upon inspection, these transformers were not performing to the standard that DTE holds for its equipment, so our crews were dispatched to take care of the problem. These transformer installs will directly support residents in this neighborhood and in the area as these are key pieces of the underground electric grid. The upgrades made here will help customers see a noticeable increase in performance, especially during extreme weather situations
Infrastructure improvements like these are critical to our mission of reducing outages and enhancing the grid’s resilience and reliability. Through equipment modernization, DTE is fortifying the existing system and positioning it to meet future electricity demands.
Upgrading work is part of DTE’s plan to build the grid of the future. That plan, now well underway, includes transitioning to a smart grid, upgrading existing infrastructure, rebuilding significant portions of the grid and trimming trees.
